Gutenberg is WordPress' new cutting edge content editor. Sounds great, right? However if you were to listen to the WordPress community, it's the worst thing to ever happen to them since someone invented the Botnet!

Don't listen to the haters. Gutenberg has been a long time coming and allows greater access and control to the user than ever before. Gone are the days of the of the restrictive single text areas, where you need premium plugins like advanced custom fields to expand in any meaningful way.

Oldschool WordPress made it hard for the common user to implement, as you needed an understanding of not only how WordPress works but also the language its based on (the ever popular PHP).

Not anymore! Thanks to Gutenberg, a Fat Fox customer will now be in control. Want to add a new block of content to your home? Opening the editor, click a button, select your block and bam! You have now updated your home page. This would have been a much more complex process even just last year.

The new editor will not only make the process of editing a page easier it will also stream-line the development experience and remove the disconnect between copy and layout. It's an exciting time to be a web developer and a Fat Fox customer!

Gutenberg at its core works as a set of blocks. They can be stacked on top of each other, side by side and even nested within each other. The new editor will allow WordPress give editing power back to the end user. Site owners will not only be able to edit and add blocks but also install custom content blocks form the WordPress plugin store to easily expand and improve their website. the plan here at Fat Fox is to create our own plugin that will be expanded and sent to our clients so they are able to constantly add new blocks to their websites.

Gutenberg will be officially merged in to the WordPress core by the end of 2018. It will mark a huge shift in the way WordPress works as it slowly evolves from the blogging platform it once was to a website creation tool for the modern age.
